Ponte de Lima is officially recognized as the oldest village in Portugal, thanks to the charter granted by Dona Teresa in 1125, mother of King Afonso Henriques. This historic document marked the beginning of the village’s administrative identity and reinforced its strategic importance in the territory that would become Portugal.
